My theme park wishes for 2021!

I will be honest with you I’m normally a glass half empty kind of girl but when it comes to my wishes for 2021 I’m a Coca-Cola freestyle cup half full kinda girl (with ICEE obviously). I’m remaining cautiously optimistic that 2021 will be a better sequel to 2020,surely planet Earth is not capable of producing a sequel any worse than Jaws The Revenge?Come on 2021 the bar is THAT low. That one hurts because anyone who knows me knows I’ve been obsessed with Jaws and Jaws 2 forever and I’m still fighting a sad one woman protest against the closure of the jaws ride. Yes,by protest I mean taking my selfie next to Bruce, longingly look over the lagoon and saying “they should never have gotten rid of Jaws” then riding Gringotts…completely betraying Bruce and everything he stands for.

As it is New Year’s Eve and I frankly can’t wait to see the end of this terrible year I am going to write about some things that I am excited about for 2021 that will either keep me sane or be the worst most deluded prediction of all time…

Seeing the universal arches for the first time.

Although I am so excited to go back to Universal I actually don’t think anybody is ready for the amount of tears I am going to cry;The first look at the Universal globe TEARS,walking under the Universal arches TEARS,the first time taking out a locker at The Revenge Of The Mummy ride TEARS,surrendering my soul to Imhotep TEARS. I definitely don’t think the family will be up for matching tshirts that day…

The first ride of The Revenge of The Mummy.

It’s getting concerning how many Revenge Of The Mummy YouTube videos I have watched over the past year,POVs,lights on,lights off, theme park history, hype video but I’m just desperate to experience it myself. I cannot wait for my holiday to start with a few rides on The Mummy and my hands to be blistering for over the top clapping as I get ready to pounce off the ride and run back into the queue again. All of course while crying. During lockdown I purchased a few Universal Monsters/ The Mummy tshirts and accessories which I am looking forward to debut!

Chilis.

I’m a pretty sarcastic person but when I say I would fly to Orlando for a Chilis I’m actually not joking,Tui or BA can have a blank check for all I care as long as I can get me a bacon ranch quesadilla. Every payday I have been buying tokens and gift cards for restaurants I like to visit in Orlando just to help me put money aside,I have bought mostly Chilis tokens because it is my absolute go to for a meal and has been for the past 15 years. There are definitely more refined places to eat and I have had many beautiful steaks in Orlando but tex-mex is definitely my first choice .

My order is always (3 for $10) a half order of the Texas cheese fries, bacon ranch quesadilla and a strawberry lemonade. Safe to say by the end of my stay I hope to be on first name basis with all the servers and have eaten my body weight plus holiday weight in quesadilla. No matter how many times I try to recreate them at home I can never get close to Chilis bacon ranch quesadilla…and I don’t want to hear that it’s just a toasted wrap that isn’t helpful.

Experience new additions in the Parks.

Having rewatched all of the Bourne movies recently I am even more excited about The Bourne Stuntacular. I was always a huge fan of the Terminator 3-D attraction and made sure to see it every visit. while I am going to try and not watch any YouTube spoilers on Bourne and go into it with fresh eyes I think it is going to be something “very up my street”.

Chicken out of the VelociCoaster and admire it from afar.

It was all fun and games when we were first anticipating the construction of the velocicoaster. “Oh Universal this is the worlds worst kept secret”,there were many YouTube videos predicting the ride layout and photos of the track lying down in various construction yards, and that was fine, when it was flat. “Oh Universal what is that churro stand you are building” wink wink. well I was getting a bit cocky thinking I would ride the velocicoaster until I saw the top hat. Yeah, unless I close my eyes the full time or have a couple of coronaritas before queuing up there’s very every chance I will not be brave enough to ride it.I am a bit gutted about this because the volume of track over the lagoon, the heart line rolls, the animatronic look phenomenal and I think it’s a wonderful addition to the Islands of Adventure skyline. Even if I don’t ride it I will none the less be buzzing to see it in person and visit the raptor encounter for the first time too,and of course ride the Jurassic Park River Adventure.

Volcano Bay.

I practically live in the water on holiday on account of me loving swimming and water slides as well as being scared of getting sunburnt and inevitably cooling said sunburn down in the pool. Volcano Bay is just a piece of paradise and the best place to have a rest day on what can feel like a hectic (in the best way) holiday, the wave pool infront of the Volcano and the Fearless river are my favourite places to relax and hang out with family and friends. This year was quite the compromise in that instead of going to Volcano Bay and circling round the fearless river in the Florida sun I get to sit in my lazy spa on my patio on the very occasional day that it isn’t pouring down with rain.

It seems crazy to me how much of a special place Volcano Bay holds in my heart considering I have only visited it now on my most recent 2 trips to Orlando. Aswell as how sad I was to see that Wet ‘n’ Wild was closing, just showing that Universal practically always pull it out of the bag with bigger and better ideas when they shake things up.Not Revenge Of The Mummy though don’t even think about messing with perfection.

Stay at Cabana Bay again and visit ALL the Universal Orlando Resort hotels.

Those of you who are familiar with my blog know that I cannot speak highly enough of Cabana Bay Beach Resort. The themeing, room configuration and proximity to Volcano Bay are everything I want when I am booking my holiday, literally this hotel is perfect for my family and I. I am also making it my mission to visit all the on site hotels, though I have visited most before and stayed at several I would really like to explore all the hotels better and maybe even book a couple nights in a hotel with free express pass as a little staycation,on my vacation.

Spend a months wage on theme park cocktails.

I am exaggerating a bit but I can’t wait to hand Universal and Disney my hard earned money on their pretty damn expensive cocktails. The electric blues from Hard Rock Cafe, blue coronarita at Bubba Gumps,Shark Attack at Chez Alcatraz and the strawberry coronarita at the Rainforest cafe are just some of my favourite drinks that get me in the holiday mood.

To be Care free.

People talk about the Disney bubble and I for one can definitely relate to that when I am in the parks be it Universal or Disney I feel so care free and the only thing that matters in that moment is working out what ride or show you want to see next or what cocktail to order with dinner. I think after this year which has been so upsetting for everyone of every age I am looking forward to a little bit of freedom and fun.

Stop using the phrase the new normal.

I think this one is definitely too optimistic maybe even verging on delusional but I hope things go back to normal even just the slightest bit so we can stop using that god awful phrase “the new normal”.

Happy New Years Eve everyone I am so thankful this year for those of you who have read any of my blogs, shared or liked them! I will be raising a FULL glass of Prosecco tonight, see you all in 2021!

  1. I hope this all becomes a reality for you in 2021!

Reading your post makes me realize how great I have it living in Orlando, and living just 3 miles up the block from Universal. I have been there 5 times in the past 6 weeks. And yes, I’m with you regarding the resorts. Besides the parks themselves, I love visiting the resorts. Cabana Bay is by far my favorite as I love that 1960s vibe.

Anyway, once again, I hope you are able to make it this year, and after reading this post, I will not take for granted just how easy it is for me to visit this great place. (Of course, the one place I have never been and long to go is the U.K., so you have the advantage there!)

    Have a wonderful 2021!

  2. I too looks so forward to the theme parks and cruise ships gong again. Great post. By the way, if I was going to move to Florida and wanted to be half way between Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando, what would be a reasonable place to go?
